§ Mr. Kenneth BakerI refer my hon. Friend to the answer I gave my hon. Friend the Member for Enfield, Southgate (Mr. Portillo) on 5 June about the appointment of Sir Godfrey Taylor as chairman of the London residuary body. I am pleased to be able to announce that the following have accepted my right hon. Friend's invitation to serve as chairmen of the residuary bodies in the metropolitan counties, when they are established by order under the Local Government Act 1985.
Greater Manchester Residuary Body—Mr. J. P. B. Hadfield, JP, formerly Chairman and Managing Director of Bass North West Limited.Merseyside Residuary Body—Mr. L. F. Pocock, CBE, formerly Deputy Group Comptroller Royal Insurance Group.903WTyne and Wear Residuary Body—Mr. A. S. Robertson, formerly Chief Executive, Northumbrian Water Authority.West Midlands Residuary Body—Dr. M. D. Skillicorn, Corporate Director, Public Affairs, of the GKN Group.West Yorkshire Residuary Body—Mr. T. McDonald, OBE, a senior partner in Armitage and Norton, Chartered Accountants.Sir Godfrey Taylor's appointment will run for five years from the date of the establishment of the London residuary body, and those of the other chairmen until 1 April 1988.
Announcements about other appointments to the residuary bodies, and the dates on which they are to be set up, will be made shortly.
§ Mr. Tony Banksasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will now list the new authorities in Greater London with the power to issue precepts under section 67 of the Local Government Act 1985.
