Mr. Home Robertson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the value of intervention stocks of barley, breadmaking wheat, feed wheat, and oilseed rape, respectively, held by the Intervention Board for Agricultural Produce at the end of the 1984–85 crop year.

Mr. MacGregor

The following is the value of the cereals stocks held by the Intervention Board on 30 June 1985, based on the buying-in prices applicable on that date.

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what stocks of barley, breadmaking wheat, feed wheat, and oilseed rape, respectively, were held in (a) intervention stores and (b) in private stores at the end of the 1984–85 crop year: and what were the comparable figures for 1983–84.

Stocks of barley, breadmaking wheat, feedwheat and oilseed rape held in intervention stores, including commercial stores used for that purpose, on 30 June 1985, the latest date for which information is available, and on 30 June 1984 were the following:

Mr. Home Robertson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list the locations of privately owned stores which are to be used by the Intervention Board for Agricultural Produce for the storage of grain in the coming year, giving the capacity of each store and the level of payments from public funds for their use; and if he will indicate which of these stores are additional to 1984's provision.

Storage for intervention grain in the coming year will be taken up as required. and its location, capacity and cost is not yet known.

Mr. Hoyle

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, pursuant to the reply of the Minister of State to the hon. Member for Warrington, North on 23 July concerning intervention stores for wheat, if he will list the uses of wheat sold from intervention.

Mr. MacGregor

Wheat has been sold from intervention stocks in the United Kingdom for milling into flour for export as food aid; and on to the home market probably for milling into flour and for use in animal feed.

Mr. Strang

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the level of intervention stocks in (a) public storage and (b) assisted private storage for the United Kingdom, for the latest available dates, 12 months ago and five years ago, for the following commodities: butter, skimmed milk powder, wheat, barley and beef.
