Mr. Nicholson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many hectares of forest land presently planted with trees are owned by the Department of Agriculture, Northern Ireland.

Dr. Boyson

At 31 March 1985, 56,618 hectares, including land on lease to and managed by the Department. Separate statistics are not readily available for land owned by the Department.

Mr. Nicholson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) what were the total running costs of the forestry division within the Department of Agriculture, Northern Ireland, for the financial year 1983–84;

(2) what was the value of trees sold from forests in the possession of the Department of Agriculture in 1983–84.
