HC Deb 26 July 1985 vol 83 cc847-8W
Mr. Alex Carlile

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the implications of the settlement reached between British Airways and the Laker Airways liquidator for the viability and timing of the proposed privatisation of British Airways.

Mr. Michael Spicer

The settlement of the Laker liquidator's action clears one hurdle in the way of the privatisation of British Airways. The Government intend that privatisation should take place as soon as possible, but there are legal issues arising out of US anti-trust law still to be resolved before a date can be set.
