Mr. Bermingham

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what is the number of prison officers currently engaged at each penal establishment in England and Wales at the latest date available;

(2) how many prison officers were engaged at each penal establishment in England and Wales on (a) 31 December 1984, (b) 31 December 1983, (c) 31 December 1982 and (d) 31 December 1981.
