Mr. Favell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what, in cash terms and in real terms, the gross pay and the take-home pay was of a Civil Service permanent secretary with a £30,000 mortgage and two children of school age on 1 July 1979, on 1 July 1982 and will be with effect from 1 July 1985.

The figures given in the table are annual rates based on the salary applying at 1 July for each of the years in question.
