§ Mrs. Beckettasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what would be the cost of (a) abolishing the upper and lower age restrictions for the receipt of mobility allowance, (b) abolishing just the upper age restriction for the receipt of mobility allowance in 1990 and 1995 and (c) abolishing the upper age restriction for applications for mobility allowance; and how many extra people would receive mobility allowance in each of these cases.
§ Mr. NewtonIt has been estimated that removing the age limits for mobility allowance altogether would cost some £340 million a year. This estimate is now being updated and I shall write to the hon. Member when the information requested is available.
