§ Mr. Murphyasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on progress on upgrading the Al to motorway status at Hatfield, on the resolving of difficulties for local residents relating to construction work, and on the expected environmental impact of the completed project.
§ Mrs. ChalkerThis complex scheme is on schedule for completion in April 1987. A noise barrier has been erected along the eastern boundary of the tunnel section to screen adjacent houses during construction work.
Regular bulletins are issued to keep local residents informed, especially of traffic diversions, and the resident engineer's office is there to try to resolve any difficulties. On completion the cut-and-cover tunnel will reduce the environmental impact of the new motorway.
