§ Mr. Onslowasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received advocating the amendment of the Land Compensation Act 1973 so as to create a statutory right for householders affected by oil and gas-related activities to claim compensation; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MacfarlaneIn addition to my hon. Friend's recent letter on this subject, my hon. Friend the Member for Wealden (Sir G. Johnson Smith) has also raised this issue with me. I see no reason why oil and gas operations should be made the only form of private sector development subject to statutory compensation under the Land Compensation Act 1973. I shall be writing to my hon. Friend shortly to explain why.
