HC Deb 22 July 1985 vol 83 c426W
Mr. Beaumont-Dark

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what is the practice of his Department in applying to admirals of the Fleet, field marshals and marshals of the Royal Air Force, who remain on the active list, the rule that Crown servants are free to accept certain business appointments without official permission two years after their retirement.

Mr. Hayhoe

Admirals of the Fleet, field marshals and marshals of the Royal Air Force are subject to the rules governing the acceptance of outside appointments in the same way as other Crown servants to whom the rules apply. Whilst they remain on the active list and for two years after their names are removed from that list, they are required to seek the Government's approval before taking up any outside appointments.
