§ Mrs. ChalkerLocal authorities who carry out routine maintenance of motorways on our behalf are guided by the recently published code of practice for routine maintenance for motorways and all-purpose trunk roads, a copy of which is in the Library of the House. The code is designed to ensure consistent and safe maintenance standards. The basic provision for the clearance of litter may be varied on safety grounds or where litter is a particular problem.
