§ Mr. Austin Mitchellasked the Prime Minister whether she will give an undertaking not to agree to any European 227W Economic Community proposals which would in any way increase the powers of the European Economic Community Assembly.
§ The Prime MinisterTo increase the powers of the European Assembly would require a change in the treaty which would have to be agreed by each national Parliament. I see no need for such a change. We shall continue to put forward suggestions of our own which would enable the assembly to play a more positive role within its existing powers.
