§ Mr. Wareingasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has received about the refusal of the Home Cereals Authority to accept Merseyside companies offering space for the storage of EEC Intervention Board grain; what his response has been; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MacGregor[pursuant to his reply, 16 July 1985]: Representations have been received from two hon Members on behalf of employees of the Liverpool Grain Stores which I understand are due to close. In reply, I pointed out that intervention grain must be allocated to the nearest available store, the aim being to limit the cost to the Community budget of transporting surplus grain from the areas of production into store. There are few offerers of grain from the area adjacent to Liverpool and sufficient intervention storage to serve file needs of the north-west of England is already under contract.
