§ Mr. Strawasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what estimate he makes of (i) the number of households in England paying domestic rates (a) in full and (b) rebated, and (ii) the total number of adults, 18 years and over, resident in those households.
§ Mr. WaldegraveThere are about 18 million domestic hereditaments in England. Based on local authority returns, it is estimated that 6.2 million ratepayers received rate rebates in 1984–85. The total number of adults aged 18 years and over in England is estimated to be 35.7 million in mid 1984.
