§ Mr. Patrick Thompsonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is now able to make a statement about the revision of criteria for the granting of duty-free facilities at airports.
§ Mr. HayhoeYes. Following a review by Customs and Excise, I have decided that the following criteria will apply. In order to qualify for a duty-free shop airports must:
- (a) be designated;
- (b) have scheduled flights or frequent charter services;
- (c) have full-time attendance by Customs for flights to foreign and Channel Islands destinations.
Customs estimate that this could result in the granting of duty-free shop facilities at another eight regional airports.
