Mr. Michael Forsyth

asked the Prime Minister (1) to what extent Her Majesty's Government propose to take account of the advice of the management of the British Steel Corporation in taking a decision about the future of the steel industry; and if she will make a statement;

(2) if she will make it the policy of Her Majesty's Government not to take any decision on the future of the steel industry until the British Steel Corporation's corporate plan has been considered by Ministers; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

The Government will take full account of BSC management's views in taking any decisions on the future of the steel industry. The Corporation's views are not exclusively embodied in corporate plans.
