asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is now satisfied with the working of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981; and if he will make a statement.

The Government are satisfied that the 1981 Act provides a sound basis for future conservation policies, particularly following the passage of the recent amendment Act.
