HC Deb 10 July 1985 vol 82 c475W
45. Mr. Tom Cox

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list those beaches in Great Britain that do not meet the health standards laid down by the European Economic Community.

Mr. Waldegrave

Routine information only is held centrally on the quality of the bathing waters identified under the European Council directive of 8 December 1975. Of these waters, the following did not meet the directive's bacteriological standards in 1984Thorpe Bay (Essex); Ryde, Sandown Esplanade and Shanklin Chine (Isle of Wight); Goodrington (Paignton); and Porthminister (St. Ives).
