HL Deb 09 July 1985 vol 466 cc182-4WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether adequate staff and resources have been allocated to the Standing Advisory Commission on Human Rights (in Northern Ireland) to enable it to complete its review of discrimination and inequality and their remedies by the target date of January 1987.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Northern Ireland Office (Lord Lyell)

The chairman of the Standing Advisory Commission on Human Rights has put forward proposals for this review. They have considerable resource implications, which are being urgently examined. The Northern Ireland Office is meanwhile discussing with the commission the implementation of the recommendations of a recent review of the commission's staffing levels, which suggested that there should be some additional staff.
