§ Mr. John MacKayAt 30 September 1984 there were 10,508 (9,383 whole-time equivalent) doctors in the National Health Service in Scotland including hospital, community health and general practice; 2,704 (2,317.4 whole-time equivalent) were female of whom 242 (225 whole-time equivalent) were consultants or specialists in community medicine.
