Mr. Hunter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) how many military personnel have been employed in the provision of medical services to the Army in each year since 1979;

(2) how many military personnel have been employed in the provision of medical services to the Royal Navy in each year since 1979;

(3) how many military personnel have been employed in the provision of medical services to the Royal Air Force in each year since 1979.

I refer my hon. Friend to the "Statement on the Defence Estimates 1985 (Part 2)". The information requested is shown on page 45 in table 6.2.

asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) how many civilian personnel have been employed in the provision of medical services to the Army in each year since 1979;

(2) how many civilian personnel have been employed in the provision of medical services to the Royal Navy in each year since 1979;

(3) how many civilian personnel have been employed in the provision of medical services to the Royal Air Force in each year since 1979.

The following figures are for civilian personnel employed in the provision of medical services to the three services on 1 April in each of the years 1982–1985 inclusive. The information is not readily available for previous years and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

The figures comprise medical nursing and specialist staffs only; they do not include ancillary or administrative staffs.

(2) what has been the cost to the defence budget of the provision of medical services to the Royal Air Force in each year since 1979;

(3) what has been the cost to the defence budget of the provision of medical services to the Royal Navy in each year since 1979.

(2) if he will list the facilities which provide medical services for Army personnel in the Camberley area;

(3) if he will list the facilities which provide medical services for Army personnel in the Frimley area.

Mr. Lee

Primary and secondary medical care for Army personnel in the Frimley, Aldershot and Camberley areas of the Army's south-east district is provided by facilities and personnel at Army medical centres within he district and by the Cambridge military hospital, Aldershot respectively.
