HC Deb 08 July 1985 vol 82 c365W
Mr. Sims

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services to what extent facilities for post-illness and postoperative convalescence are provided under the National Health Service.

Mr. John Patten

In recent years there has been a considerable reduction in the traditional form of convalescence. Within the National Health Service, post-illness and post-operative convalescence forms part of normal total medical care and patients are not now sent to special convalescence homes unless there are particular reasons for this. District health authorities are not required to notify the Department of any such arrangements they may make.
