HC Deb 08 July 1985 vol 82 c347W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether at any time Broad Street station has been recommended for listing by an investigator; and what professional advice was received by the Department on each occasion that the building was previously considered for listing in 1971, 1975, and 1981.

Mr. Macfarlane

[pursuant to his reply, 4 July 1985]: In 1971 and again in 1975, the City of London was surveyed for buildings of special architectural or historic interest by professional historic buildings inspectors. The resulting statutory list issued by the Secretary of State in 1972 and revised in 1977 did not include Broad Street Station since on neither occasion had it been assessed as of special interest. In 1981 on the evidence of further advice offered, the Secretary of State at the time was not persuaded to reverse the view that had previously been taken.
