§ 39. Mr. Beithasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is satisfied with the working of the present law regulating the sale of alcohol in supermarkets, particularly in respect of young people.
§ Mr. MellorSupermarkets with off-licences are subject to the licensing law in the same way as other off-licensed premises. Breaches of that law are a matter for the police and it is open to them or to any other person to oppose the annual renewal of a licence. I am not aware of any evidence to suggest that the operation of the present law at supermarkets causes particular problems.
