(2) if he will consider introducing measures to provide for interest to be payable on sums awarded in compensation to victims of riots; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Giles ShawThe White Paper on the review of public order law, published on 16 May, proposes that claims under the Riot (Damages) Act 1886 should in future be subject to the test of the proposed new statutory offence of riot. My right hon. and learned Friend will consider whether any other changes are needed in the present statutory arrangements for compensation for victims of riot in the light of the comments received on the White Paper.
