HC Deb 03 July 1985 vol 82 c189W
45. Mr. Gregory

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what plans he has to encourage the United Kingdom conference tourism market.

Mr. Norman Lamont

The Government recognise that the conference sector is an important element of the tourism market. It is one of the functions of the statutory tourist boards to encourage the development of this sector, and the British Tourist Authority seeks to promote Britain as a venue for international conferences through co-operation with commercial interests, by providing information and advisory literature and by maintaining a data bank of forthcoming international events.
