§ Mrs. ChalkerSome 70 per cent. of central Government transport expenditure of £1.14 billion (excluding subsidies to transport industries) by my Department in 1984–85 was capital expenditure. During this period £187,129 was allocated to innovative cycle schemes and to schemes in the cycle route programme. Figures are not available (1) for staff or administrative costs devoted to cycling at HQ or the Transport and Road Research Laboratory; (2) for the totality of cycling expenditure accepted for transport supplementary grant; or (3) for cycle elements of trunk road improvement schemes.
