HC Deb 01 July 1985 vol 82 c78W
19. Mr. Maclean

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the role of sub-post offices in issuing vehicle licences.

Mr. Michael Spicer

Sub-post offices form an essential part of the vehicle relicensing service, especially in rural areas. At present about a quarter of all licence renewals are carried out at over 1,500 sub-post offices throughout the country. Further improvements will be made to the service following the recent agreement I reached with the chairman of the Post Office under which an extra 500 sub-post offices, mainly in rural areas, will be added to the network over the next three years.
