HC Deb 01 July 1985 vol 82 c45W
Mr. Shersby

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the most recent information available to his Department from the banks concerning the percentage of the adult population who are still without bank accounts; and what estimate he has made of the proportion who are social security beneficiaries.

Mr. Whitney

The latest information available to the Department indicates that 27 per cent. of adults have no account of any kind with a bank. It is not possible to estimate what proportion are social security beneficiaries.
