HC Deb 31 January 1985 vol 72 cc245-6W
79. Mr. Pike

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is satisfied with the operation of racism awareness training course for the police.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The Home Office sponsored an experimental series of four courses in racism awareness training for police officers. An evaluation of that training was recently published. We are satisfied that training of this kind has a contribution to make to the community and race relations courses that are currently being developed by the police.

The Home Office has also set up at Brunel university a centre for the study of community and race relations, with an emphasis on developing the training skills of police trainers in this subject.
