§ Mr. Gryllsasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the cost of changing the writing down allowance on plant and machinery from 25 per cent. on the reducing balance to (a) 25 per cent. straight line and (b) 20 per cent. straight line.
§ Mr. Moore[pursuant to his reply, 22 January 1985, c. 365]: The costs would build up over a number of years so that estimates depend crucially upon future levels of investment. Only very tentative estimates can be provided of the peak year cost which could be up to (a) £2 billion and (b) £1 billion.
