§ Mr. Wigleyasked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will take steps to ensure that where, under the provisions of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, areas are designated as areas of special scientific interest then there should be provided an opportunity for the owner or occupier of that land, or other interested party, to appeal against that designation should they so desire.
§ Mr. John Stradling ThomasThe matter was considered during the passage of the Act, and we concluded that the right balance was struck by requiring the Nature Conservancy Council to take account of any representations of objections made by owners and occupiers of proposed sites of special scientific interest before notifying such sites.
