HC Deb 24 January 1985 vol 71 cc524-5W
Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many employees are receiving family income supplement; and what was the comparable figure in 1979.

Mr. Whitney

At September 1984, the latest date for which information is available, of 207,000 families receiving family income supplement 180,000 were headed by a full-time employee.

The nearest comparable 1979 figures available are for October 1979 and these were 70,000 families in total of which 65,000 were headed by a full-time employee.
