§ Mr. LuceWe and our European partners have consistently made clear our view that Israel's policy of building settlements in occupied territory is illegal and an obstacle to peace. My right hon. and learned Friend made this point personally to Israeli Ministers during his visit to Israel in October 1984.
The announcement by Israel on 10 January of six new settlements is a negative step which undermines confidence in Israel's intentions.
