§ 25 Mr. Douglasasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on Her Majesty's Government's current position with regard to the Antarctic treaty.
§ Mr. RentonAs a founder member, we greatly value the Antarctic treaty. It has successfully demilitarised Antarctica, maintained the peace there and helped promote important international scientific cooperation. We shall continue to defend and strengthen the treaty system. We welcome the continuing accession of new member states.
