HL Deb 21 January 1985 vol 459 cc101-2WA
Lord Brockway

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will place in the Library a copy of the Declaration on Africa, covering emergency relief for famine and longer-term remedies for famine, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 4th December 1984; and what was the attitude of the United Kingdom representatives to this declaration.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Young)

Copies of the Declaration on Africa adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 3rd December 1984 are being placed in the Library today. The declaration, adopted by consensus, was welcomed by United Kingdom representatives and by all regional groups. It is an important statement both of the international community's readiness to assist Africa and of African countries' resolve to help themselves.
