HC Deb 18 January 1985 vol 71 c257W
Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what information he has as to the number of major United Kingdom investments which have taken place in, and of major contracts which have been concluded with, South Africa in the past 12 months; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Channon

We are, of course, aware of information which is in the public domain, but there is no universal requirement for United Kingdom companies to report annually to my Department on these matters, and therefore the picture we have may not be complete. The latest information on levels of United Kingdom investment in South Africa was contained in the reply given to my hon. Friend by the Prime Minister on 11 May 1984 at column471. British exporters currently have slightly less than 11 per cent. of the South African market.
