§ Mr. Cartwrightasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what organisations and individuals have so far been consulted about the possible formation of a trust to take over the management and ownership of Thamesmead after the abolition of the Greater London council.
§ Sir George YoungI visited Thamesmead recently and had an informal discussion with a number of representatives of community organisations, which I found very useful. I intend to hold further such discussions over the next few months. I have also had discussions with the London borough of Bexley. The London borough of Greenwich has not yet accepted my repeated invitations to a meeting. Subject to parliamentary approval of the Local Government Bill, we expect to begin formal consultation as soon as possible after it is enacted.
