HL Deb 17 January 1985 vol 458 c1164WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are aware of hostilities between the Indonesian armed forces and the people of East Timor and West Papua, and what restrictions, if any, they place on the sale of arms to Indonesia while these armed conflicts continue.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Young)

We follow closely developments in East Timor and Irian Jaya. Arms sales to Indonesia, like any other country, are considered individually on their merits, taking into account all relevant factors, including human rights issues.
