§ Mr. Giles ShawIt is the responsibility of the police authority to maintain an adequate and efficient police force for its area. On 30 November 1984 the West Midlands force had 6,551 police officers and 1,367 full time civilian staff. The staffing levels in relation to population are in line with those in similar areas.
