§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) if he will list in the Official Report all those organisations or individuals who have expressed to him opposition to the possible implementation of the proposals of the Silberston report on competition in the United Kingdom textile industry;
(2) what representations he has received concerning the Silberston report on competition in the United Kingdom textile industry;
(3) whether he has any intention of implementing the proposals of the Silberston report on competition in the United Kingdom textile industry.
§ Mr. ChannonProfessor Silberston was asked to make an independent study of the implications for the United Kingdom economy at large, and for the industries concerned in particular, of international trading policies affecting textiles and clothing. The Government will develop their own proposals, but before that will consult all the main interested parties concerned. Representations on the Silberston report have been received from various parties, including the British Clothing Industries126W Association, the British Textile Confederation, the Knitting Industries Federation and the Consumers' Association.
