§ The Attorney-GeneralSection 71 of the Shops Act 1950 assigns responsibility for the enforcement of the provisions of the Shops Act 1950 to the local authority for the district concerned. The Director of Public Prosecutions, for whose work I have responsibility, has not dealt with any such cases in 1984. The total number of prosecutions brought in 1984 under the 1950 Act is not yet available, but will be included in the statistics relating to crime and criminal proceedings for 1984 when they are published by the Home Office.
