HC Deb 14 January 1985 vol 71 c70W
Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many young people have suffered a deduction in supplementary benefit for (a) refusing to take up a youth training scheme place and (b) leaving a youth training scheme place in the period since the provision was first introduced.

Mr. Whitney

The numbers of young people who had their supplementary benefit reduced because they had, without good cause,(a) refused or (b) left prematurely a place on the youth training scheme during the period 23 November 1983 to 20 November 1984—the latest date available—were 1,163 and 10,701, respectively.

Records of supplementary benefit reductions for this reason were not kept prior to 23 November 1983.
