Mr. Gregory

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how much wages councils cost to administer in 1982, 1983 and 1984; and if he will make an estimate of the cost in 1985.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The cost of administering wages councils, including the cost of the wages inspectorate, for each of the past three years is as follows:

1983–84 4.029

The estimated cost for the current financial year is around £4.25 million.

Mr. Gregory

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how much the Licensed Residential Establishment and Licensed Restaurant Wages Council cost to administer in 1982, 1983 and 1984; and if he will make an estimate of the cost in 1985.
