HC Deb 14 January 1985 vol 71 c45W
20. Mr. Powley

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will ask the chairman of British Rail what steps are being taken to improve timekeeping on passenger services.

Mr. David Mitchell

My right hon. Friend has already set British Rail very clear objectives emphasising the need for reliable attractive and punctual services. Within the overall framework set by these objectives it is for the British Railways Board to decide what punctuality targets may he appropriate for particular groups of services and how best to achieve those targets. It has started to do so.
