§ Mr. Bowen Wellsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what will be the total savings achieved in the financial year 1985–86 and 1986–87 of the closure of posts announced on 18 December 1984.
§ Mr. RentonEstimated savings are at least £600,000 in 1985–86 and at least 1.1 million in 1986–87 compared with what costs would otherwise have been in those years. The lower figure for 1985–86 is due to end of service payments to locally-engaged staff, expenditure on termination of leases and other winding-up costs.
