HC Deb 14 January 1985 vol 71 c11W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the future of photosynthesis research at the Welsh plant breeding research establishment.

Mr. Brooke

The Welsh plant breeding station is an institute of the Agricultural and Food Research Council which receives a grant-in-aid from the Department's science budget. The work on photosynthesis at the station forms part of the Agricultural and Food Research Service's co-ordinated programme of research in this area. I understand that the AFRC attaches high priority to that programme. The work at the WPBS relates to grassland and in particular to the effects of low temperature, a topic of some importance in the United Kingdom.
