HC Deb 14 January 1985 vol 71 c41W
Sir John Osborn

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) whether Namibia can achieve internationally recognised independence only on the basis of United Nations Security Council resolution 435;

(2) whether all the terms of United Nations Security Council resolution 435 remain relevant to Namibia; and whether this resolution will be redrafted to take into account recent developments in South Africa.

Mr. Rifkind

We remain committed to United Nations Security Council Resolution 435, which is the internationally agreed basis for a Namibia settlement. It continues to command the support of all the parties concerned, including South Africa. It would be for all these parties to consider, and agree on, any changes.
