HC Deb 14 January 1985 vol 71 c22W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what action he plans to take to help Welsh local authorities which have no more land available for building new houses.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

In September 1984 the Welsh Office issued circular 47/84 "Land for Housing in Wales" advising local authorities on their responsibility to ensure that there is an adequate supply of land available for housing. The circular advised that where the supply is found to be inadequate to meet the structure plan provision for housing, authorities should consider what steps to take including expediting planning applications and allocating additional land through the preparation and adoption of local plans. The Land Authority for Wales with its powers to acquire and dispose of land for development can also play a significant role in making more housing land available.
