HC Deb 14 January 1985 vol 71 c67W
Mr. Terry Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the estimated cost of contraceptive services in England for the years 1975 to 1984, inclusive, at 1983–84 prices.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Precise details of the costs of contraceptive services provided through the National Health Service are not available, though it is possible to identify, for each financial year, the fees paid to general medical practitioners for the provision of these services, and to estimate the basic ingredient cost of the medicines and devices prescribed, and the costs of family planning clinics. Estimates of total cost on these services for England are given at 1983–84 prices—as measured by the GDP deflator.
